Barangay Ginebra scores huge comeback win over Blackwater, 105-86

Barangay Ginebra bounced back from a recent upset with a resounding 105-86 victory over the Blackwater Bossing in the PBA Philippine Cup at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Friday night, April 12.

After a disappointing loss to Terrafirma, Barangay Ginebra showed resilience and determination, led by Christian Standhardinger’s outstanding 33-point performance. 

Standhardinger dominated the court, shooting an impressive 12-of-17 from the field and converting 9-of-11 free throws. His impactful presence, combined with solid contributions from teammates, propelled the Gin Kings to victory and halted their two-game slide.

Scottie Thompson made a significant return from injury, showcasing his playmaking abilities with eight assists and adding seven rebounds and four points to the scoreboard. 

His presence provided a crucial boost for Barangay Ginebra as they regained their footing in the standings.

Maverick Ahanmisi, Ralph Cu, and Jamie Malonzo also played pivotal roles in the victory, each contributing double-digit points to bolster the team’s offensive output. Ahanmisi and Cu tallied 14 points apiece, while Malonzo added 11 points, further demonstrating the depth of Barangay Ginebra’s roster.

The Gin Kings’ defensive intensity was evident throughout the game, limiting the Bossing’s offensive opportunities and forcing turnovers. The team’s cohesive performance on both ends of the court allowed them to establish a commanding lead early in the game, carrying a 19-point advantage into halftime.

In the third quarter, Cu showcased his sharpshooting prowess with four three-pointers, extending Barangay Ginebra’s lead to an insurmountable 27 points heading into the final period. The Gin Kings’ offensive execution and defensive tenacity were instrumental in maintaining control and securing the decisive victory.

With this win, Barangay Ginebra propelled themselves back into the top four of the standings with a 4-3 record, positioning themselves for a strong finish in the regular season. The team’s determination to bounce back from adversity and return to winning ways reflects their championship pedigree and commitment to success.
