Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings triumphed once more, securing their second consecutive victory in the PBA Philippine Cup. Facing off against the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters at the iconic Smart Araneta Coliseum, Ginebra displayed a balanced performance that left their opponents trailing in their wake.

The game echoed the previous standout performance by Jamie Malonzo, who had delivered a scintillating 32-point spectacle in their previous outing. However, this time around, it was not a one-man show as Ginebra rallied behind a collective effort to seal the win, 102-92, Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Malonzo, continuing his impressive form, recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, setting the tone for the Gin Kings’ victory. Yet, it wasn’t just Malonzo who shone on the court; he was ably supported by his teammates, with five players reaching double figures in scoring.

The Gin Kings’ offensive arsenal was on full display, particularly from beyond the arc, where they knocked down an impressive total of 16 three-pointers. This long-range proficiency proved crucial, especially during a decisive 32-19 third-quarter surge that saw Ginebra pull away from the Fuel Masters.

Leading the charge was Stanley Pringle, whose timely three-pointers provided the necessary momentum for Ginebra. Pringle’s contributions, coupled with solid performances from Nard Pinto, Ralph Cu, and Christian Standhardinger, ensured that the Gin Kings maintained control of the game.

Cu, in particular, ignited a pivotal nine-point spree during a critical juncture, extending Ginebra’s lead and demoralizing the opposition. Meanwhile, Japeth Aguilar’s athleticism was on full display, punctuating the team’s dominance with electrifying layups and thunderous dunks.

Despite a valiant effort from the Fuel Masters, who sorely missed the presence of the injured Tyler Tio, they struggled to contain Ginebra’s relentless offensive onslaught. Jason Perkins led the charge for Phoenix, top-scoring with 14 points, supported by contributions from Javee Mocon, Sean Manganti, and Ken Tuffin.

However, their efforts proved insufficient against a determined Ginebra side that showcased both depth and resilience. With their second consecutive win, the Gin Kings sent a resounding message to the rest of the league, establishing themselves as early contenders in the PBA Philippine Cup.

As the season progresses, Ginebra will look to build upon this momentum, drawing strength from their collective unity and unwavering determination.
