Cam Thomas delivered a sensational performance, pouring in 38 points to lead the Brooklyn Nets to a hard-fought 122-119 overtime victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night (Thursday, March 28, Philippine time).

The win halted the Wizards’ three-game winning streak and provided a much-needed boost for the Nets.

Thomas’ heroics in overtime, including crucial jumpers down the stretch, proved to be the difference-maker for Brooklyn. Despite a late scare from the Wizards, Thomas and the Nets remained composed and executed when it mattered most.

Jordan Poole was the standout performer for Washington, tallying a season-high 38 points in a valiant effort. However, his missed 3-pointer in the closing moments of overtime ultimately sealed the Wizards’ fate.

Reflecting on his performance, Thomas expressed satisfaction with the team’s defensive efforts in overtime, emphasizing their ability to get crucial stops when needed.

Thomas said they took good shots every time they go down in overtime, make or miss.

The game took on added significance as it coincided with the announcement of a new agreement keeping the Wizards and the NHL’s Capitals in the District of Columbia. This backdrop provided an extra layer of motivation for both teams, who engaged in an entertaining and tightly contested affair throughout.

Despite their respective playoff aspirations being uncertain, both the Nets and the Wizards showcased resilience and determination on the court. The game remained tightly contested, with neither team able to pull away until the final moments of overtime.

Thomas’ exceptional performance was complemented by strong contributions from Dennis Schroder and Nic Claxton, who provided valuable support for the Nets. Schroder chipped in with 21 points, while Claxton recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

For the Wizards, Poole’s standout performance was supported by Kyle Kuzma, who tallied 24 points and 10 assists, and Deni Avdija, who contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Despite falling short in overtime, the Wizards showcased encouraging signs of progress, with Poole’s improved playmaking drawing praise from teammates.

Kuzma said Poole has been calmer and has not been overdribbling. The latter, according to him, has been doing a good job at playmaking.

Looking ahead, the Nets will aim to build on their momentum as they host the Chicago Bulls on Friday night, while the Wizards will seek to bounce back as they host the Detroit Pistons in their next matchup.

As the playoff race intensifies, every victory becomes increasingly crucial, and both teams will be eager to continue their pursuit of success in the remaining games of the season.
