CONVERGE FiberXers showed no mercy as they unleashed a barrage of three-pointers, sinking 21 shots from beyond the arc to trounce NorthPort with a resounding 113-84 victory in the PBA On Tour held Friday, July 28, at the Ynares Sports Center.
The FiberXers’ scorching performance on the court and their stellar three-point shooting allowed them to finish their On Tour stint on a high note with a 6-5 record.
Seven sharpshooters from Converge found their range from downtown, with Adrian Wong, Matt Nieto, and Jeron Teng leading the way, draining at least four three-pointers.
Wong, in particular, was on fire, converting an impressive 7-of-11 shots from beyond the arc and tallying 23 points, along with five assists and three rebounds.
With a 6-5 record, coach Aldin Ayo and the FiberXers secured a respectable Top 6 finish in the one-round-robin preseason series presented by Arena Plus and sponsored by Bingo Plus. On the other hand, NorthPort wound up in the lower half of the standings with a 5-6 record.
In addition to their prolific three-point shooting, Converge displayed a well-rounded offensive performance. Leonard Santillan proved his prowess inside the paint, contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double performance. Matt Nieto was a threat across the board, flirting with a triple-double as he recorded 19 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. Macjour Luib was also impressed with his playmaking skills, delivering 10 assists, five points, and five rebounds.
The FiberXers’ shooting was relentless, while NorthPort struggled to find their rhythm from beyond the arc, managing only 8-of-31 three-point attempts.
NorthPort’s Mike Ayaay led their scoring efforts with 19 points, John Michael Calma with 18 points, and Paul Zamar with 17. However, their combined effort was insufficient to match Converge’s offensive firepower.
From a tight 24-23 scoreline in the first quarter, the FiberXers seized control of the game, exploding for a pair of 31-point quarters in the middle of the game. The relentless scoring assault from Converge allowed them to build a substantial lead, and they maintained their momentum to secure an emphatic and convincing victory.
The FiberXers showcased their potential as a team to watch out for in the upcoming PBA season with their balanced offensive performance and deadly three-point shooting. As they conclude their On Tour campaign on a high note, fans can look forward to witnessing Converge FiberXers’ competitive spirit and determination when they compete in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup and beyond. With a talented roster and a winning mentality, the FiberXers are poised to impact the league significantly.
