Barangay Ginebra regains winning form, crushes Blackwater Bossing, 119-93

Barangay Ginebra came out with guns blazing and took no prisoners as they dominated Blackwater in a one-sided affair that ended with a score of 119-93 on Sunday, February 19, at the Philsports Arena.

Ginebra’s Christian Standhardinger, Justin Brownlee, and Jamie Malonzo led the charge, with each of them scoring over 20 points to secure the win.

The game was all Ginebra from the start, with the team going on a scoring spree and taking a 37-20 lead in the first quarter.

Blackwater never really had a chance to catch up as the Gin Kings continued to pour in points throughout the game.

The Bossing tried to regroup by bringing back their original import, Shawn Glover, but it was not enough to overcome Ginebra’s hot shooting and all-around dominance.

For Ginebra, the win was a huge relief, especially after suffering back-to-back losses to Magnolia and San Miguel Beer.

Coach Tim Cone was pleased with the way his team bounced back, after his pre-game message to them, saying, “You can bring your best game and still lose to a Magnolia or a San Miguel.

But we knew tonight that we had to kind of jump out of that and make sure that we’re beating the teams we’re supposed to beat and to come out and make sure we got this one tonight.”

Standhardinger, who finished with 27 points, was happy with the team’s performance, saying that coach Cone stressed the importance of the game and that the team needed to come together.

“At the beginning of the game, coach stressed the fact that this game was very important for us and he was very right with that statement and I’m happy that we came together,” said the Fil-German center.

Malonzo (25 points, seven rebounds, three assists), and Brownlee (22 points, 10 boards, five assists, two steals, two blocks) were also key contributors to the win.

Ginebra shot an impressive 61% from the field and dished out 33 assists in the game, showcasing their all-around talent and team chemistry.

The win improved their record to 4-2 and moved them up to fifth place in the standings.

On the other hand, Blackwater continued to struggle, dropping their sixth straight game and their seventh in eight games overall.

Glover’s return provided a boost, but it was not enough to overcome the Gin Kings. Ato Ular also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not enough to prevent Blackwater’s latest defeat.

Ginebra will now take a break before returning to action on March 1 against Meralco. The team will look to build on their impressive win and continue their climb up the standings, while Blackwater will try to regroup and end their losing streak.
