3 min read

In a thrilling showdown at the PBA On Tour, Barangay Ginebra showcased their resilience and came from behind to secure a 114-106 victory over Terrafirma at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City Friday, June 30

Aljon Mariano emerged as the hero for Ginebra, delivering crucial baskets in the final minutes to seal the comeback win. Mariano’s stellar performance included 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, providing a glimpse of his potential as a key contributor for Ginebra in the upcoming 48th season.

Sidney Onwubere contributed 20 points, while Jeremiah Gray and Donald Gumaru each added 16 points, highlighting Ginebra’s balanced offensive attack. The victory marked Ginebra’s third consecutive win, elevating their overall record to an impressive 4-3 in the exhibition series.

Despite falling short, Javi Gomez de Liano led Terrafirma’s efforts with 23 points and 11 boards. However, his impressive performance was in vain as Terrafirma suffered back-to-back losses, dropping their record to 3-5.

Terrafirma displayed their resilience early on, mounting a 9-0 run led by Gomez de Liano, Gelo Alolino, and Ed Daquiaog to take a 101-93 lead. However, their momentum came to a halt as Ginebra fought back, eventually turning the game into a seesaw battle.

With over three minutes remaining, Terrafirma held a 106-102 advantage. Nevertheless, Ginebra orchestrated a remarkable comeback, fueled by Von Pessumal’s clutch three-pointer and Jeremiah Gray’s jumper, reclaiming the lead. Mariano then stepped up with consecutive baskets, extending Ginebra’s advantage to 111-106 with less than a minute remaining, effectively sealing the victory.

The resilient performance displayed by Ginebra exemplified their determination to overcome adversity and secure victories. As they continue to fine-tune their roster ahead of the 48th season, Ginebra’s recent success serves as a testament to their depth and ability to perform under pressure.

With each passing game, Ginebra’s cohesion and resilience continue to grow, making them a formidable force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season. As they build on their momentum, Ginebra aims to carry their winning streak into the regular season, fueling their pursuit of PBA glory.
