Kevin Durant showcased his superstar prowess, leading the Phoenix Suns to a hard-fought 104-97 victory over the defending champion Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night (Thursday, March 28, Philippine time).

Durant’s stellar performance included 30 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks, anchoring the Suns’ dominant display in Denver. Reflecting on the win, Durant emphasized the importance of bouncing back after a tough road loss to the San Antonio Spurs earlier in the week.

With the win, the Suns moved a half-game ahead of the Sacramento Kings for the seventh spot in the Western Conference standings, as they continue their push to climb higher and secure a favorable position in the postseason race. Currently, the Suns are trailing the Dallas Mavericks by just half a game for the sixth seed.

Despite missing their starting point guard Jamal Murray due to injury, the Nuggets put up a valiant effort behind Nikola Jokic’s 22 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists. However, Denver struggled to contain the Suns’ potent offense, particularly their sharpshooting from beyond the arc.

The Suns capitalized on their perimeter shooting, connecting on 16 of 33 attempts from three-point range, while the Nuggets struggled to find their rhythm, shooting just 10 of 40 from downtown.

While Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon provided scoring support for Denver with 18 points each, the Nuggets’ bench failed to deliver, shooting just 5 of 19 from the field. Additionally, Denver was outrebounded by the Suns, further hampering their chances of mounting a comeback.

Despite facing adversity with injuries to key players like Jusuf Nurkic, the Suns remained composed and focused throughout the game, capitalizing on Durant’s scoring prowess and timely contributions from their supporting cast.

Durant’s leadership was evident in crucial moments, as he spearheaded a decisive 10-0 run in the third quarter that helped the Suns seize control of the game. Despite a brief surge from the Nuggets, the Suns maintained their composure and ultimately secured the victory.

Suns coach Frank Vogel praised his team’s focus and intensity, emphasizing their confidence and resilience against any opponent. With the postseason rapidly approaching, Vogel stressed the importance of maintaining their level of play to continue winning games and solidify their position in the highly competitive Western Conference.

As the Suns celebrate another impressive road win, the Nuggets are left to regroup and refocus as they look to bounce back from a rare home loss. With the playoffs on the horizon, both teams understand the importance of finishing the regular season strong and building momentum for a successful postseason campaign.
