Lassiter’s heroics propel San Miguel Beermen to victory over Rain or Shine

3 min read

Marcio Lassiter’s explosive second-half performance led the San Miguel Beermen to a hard-fought 115-110 victory over Rain or Shine, marking their third consecutive win after an initial setback.

Lassiter, returning from an ankle injury, showcased his shooting prowess with 23 points, sinking six crucial triples, including a game-changing three-pointer in the final moments to break a 108-108 tie.

Despite facing challenges earlier in the game, Lassiter found his rhythm after the restart, going a perfect 6-of-6 from beyond the arc and 8-of-10 from the field.

His standout performance was a testament to his resilience and the trust placed in him by teammates and coaches.

San Miguel coach Jorge Gallent praised Lassiter’s impact, emphasizing that he proved his worth on the court despite a limited practice regimen. The Fil-Am sniper’s clutch shooting and ability to take over in critical moments were instrumental in securing the win for the Beermen.

Teaming up with Lassiter, CJ Perez contributed significantly in the second half, dropping 14 of his 17 points. Perez’s dynamic play included crucial baskets, steals, a three-pointer, and successful free throws, providing essential support during intense pressure from Rain or Shine.

Ivan Aska delivered a strong performance with 28 points, including nine in the closing moments, and secured 12 rebounds for San Miguel Beer. The team faced adversity when June Mar Fajardo, who scored 16 points, suffered a suspected hand fracture in the third quarter. Despite briefly returning to the court in the fourth, Fajardo’s impact was limited, emphasizing the team’s reliance on Lassiter and Perez to secure the win.

The Beermen’s victory handed Rain or Shine its fifth consecutive loss, overshadowing Gian Mamuyac’s impressive 33-point career game and the debut of import Demetrius Treadwell, who contributed eight points and 15 rebounds.

San Miguel Beer’s resilience and collective effort were evident throughout the game, highlighting the team’s determination to overcome challenges and secure crucial victories in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
