LeBron James showcased his versatility with a triple-double performance, notching 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists, propelling the Los Angeles Lakers to a convincing 136-124 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night (Thursday, March 28, Philippine time).

Rui Hachimura emerged as a scoring force, pouring in 32 points, including an impressive 7-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, to bolster the Lakers’ offensive onslaught.

The Lakers, fresh off a hard-fought double-overtime triumph against the Milwaukee Bucks, showcased their resilience by securing their fifth consecutive win.

With Anthony Davis sidelined due to a left knee hyperextension suffered in the previous game, Hachimura’s stellar performance provided a crucial offensive spark for the Lakers.

James said Rui’s ability to shoot and spread the floor was big time for them, acknowledging Hachimura’s impactful contribution in Davis’s absence.

D’Angelo Russell chipped in with 23 points for the Lakers, while Taurean Prince added 15, further solidifying their offensive depth. Despite missing Davis, the Lakers maintained their offensive rhythm, shooting efficiently throughout the contest.

Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies’ efforts with 26 points and a career-high 16 assists, displaying his playmaking prowess. Jake LaRavia erupted for 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, attempting to ignite a late comeback for Memphis. However, the Grizzlies’ valiant effort fell short as they suffered their sixth loss in seven games.

Throughout the game, the Lakers demonstrated their shooting prowess, converting eight of their first ten attempts from long range in the third quarter to establish a commanding lead. Although Memphis mounted a late surge, trimming the deficit to ten points entering the fourth quarter, the Lakers maintained their composure to secure the victory.

Reflecting on the game, Lakers coach Darvin Ham emphasized the importance of establishing an early rhythm after the grueling contest against the Bucks.

Ham said that playing the Grizzlies was not a walk in the park, coming off a game against the Milwaukee Bucks, highlighting the Lakers’ focused approach to the matchup.

The return of Brandon Clarke provided a bright spot for the Grizzlies, as the forward made his first appearance since March 5, 2023, following a left Achilles injury.

Clarke’s return elicited a heartfelt ovation from the Memphis faithful, signaling his significance to the team’s success moving forward.

As the regular season draws to a close, the Lakers’ resurgence evokes memories of their playoff push last season. With the postseason looming, the Lakers are determined to maintain their momentum and secure a favorable playoff position.

Ham underscored the team’s singular focus on securing victories down the stretch.  He Ham emphasized the Lakers’ sense of urgency as they prepare for the postseason, noting that there’s a playoff atmosphere in the air.
