The Magnolia Hotshots cruised to a commanding 104-91 victory over the Terrafirma Dyip, solidifying their claim to the top spot in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup elimination round on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The win not only marked their rebound from a lone defeat but also ensured a coveted Top 4 finish and a twice-to-beat advantage in the upcoming quarterfinals.

The Hotshots were determined to reclaim their momentum after a setback against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Tyler Bey, showcasing an exceptional all-around performance, led the charge with 25 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Ian Sangalang provided valuable support off the bench, contributing 18 points and nine rebounds. The dynamic duo of Paul Lee and Jio Jalalon, the starting guards, combined for 29 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists.

Magnolia exhibited unwavering resolve, dominating the first three quarters and establishing a commanding 31-point lead, 91-60, heading into the final period. The victory propelled their record to an impressive 8-1, securing a Top 4 position regardless of the outcomes of their last two games against the Converge FiberXers and the Meralco Bolts.

On the opposing side, the Terrafirma Dyip faced an uphill battle, now sitting at 2-6 with a fifth consecutive loss. Import Thomas De Thaey struggled, managing only 11 points on a 4-of-8 field goal clip and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Juami Tiongson emerged as the lone bright spot for the Dyip, contributing 17 points along with five rebounds and two assists.

With the Hotshots comfortably securing a Top 4 finish, their focus shifts to maintaining momentum heading into the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Dyip find themselves in a must-win situation, needing to sweep their remaining games against Rain or Shine, San Miguel Beer, and Meralco to have a shot at a quarterfinal entry.

Coach Chito Victolero’s squad showcased their championship-caliber form, demonstrating resilience and determination after a setback.

As the PBA Commissioner’s Cup unfolds, the Magnolia Hotshots emerge as a formidable force, poised for a deep playoff run and eyeing the ultimate prize. The stage is set for thrilling matchups and intense competition as the league’s elite teams vie for supremacy in the quest for PBA glory.
