The Cleveland Cavaliers demonstrated their resilience against one of the NBA’s top contenders, securing a 118-108 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night (Tuesday, January 30, in the Philipines).
Despite not being at full strength, the Cavaliers showcased their depth and determination, ending the Clippers’ five-game winning streak.
Donovan Mitchell led the charge for the Cavaliers with an impressive performance, contributing 28 points and 12 assists.
Mitchell’s dynamic playmaking abilities played a crucial role in steering the Cavs to victory. Jarrett Allen continued his outstanding run, extending his double-double streak to 15 consecutive games with 20 points and an impressive 17 rebounds, setting a franchise record.
Isaac Okoro added 17 points, all in the first half, providing valuable scoring support for the Cavaliers. The team’s ability to hold off a late comeback attempt by the Clippers reflected their resilience and defensive prowess.
The Cavaliers, despite missing key players like Evan Mobley and Darius Garland, have been on an impressive run, boasting a 10-1 record since January 3.
Mobley, returning to action after a left knee surgery on December 18, made a significant impact in his comeback game, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes.
The Cavaliers plan to manage Mobley’s playing time initially as he works back into game shape.
Mobley’s return comes ahead of Garland’s anticipated comeback from a broken jaw, further bolstering the Cavaliers’ roster.
The team’s ability to thrive in the absence of key players and still perform at a high level showcases the depth and versatility within the roster.
The Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard’s 30 points, faced a determined Cavaliers team that executed well on both ends of the floor.
Despite Norman Powell’s 18 points and efforts from James Harden, the Clippers fell short in their bid to extend their winning streak.
Cleveland’s Caris LeVert sealed the third quarter with a clutch step-back jumper, giving the Cavaliers an 88-81 lead entering the fourth.
The team managed to maintain control, with Mitchell’s 18-foot jumper in the final minutes securing the victory.
The return of Mobley, coupled with the impending return of Garland, adds a significant boost to the Cavaliers as they continue to make their mark in the Eastern Conference.
