Ralph Cu, the second-round draft pick for Barangay Ginebra, continued to impress as he nearly notched a triple-double in a thrilling PBA Philippine Cup showdown against NorthPort Batang Pier, guiding the Kings to a hard-fought 95-88 victory at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday night, April 14.

Cu, selected 23rd overall in Season 48 from La Salle, delivered a standout performance with career-highs of 24 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. His stellar play included six made three-pointers, with his final triple igniting a pivotal 10-3 run in the closing minutes that sealed the win for Ginebra, securing their second consecutive victory.

Christian Standhardinger and Scottie Thompson also played crucial roles for the Kings with well-rounded performances. Standhardinger dominated with 25 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists, showcasing his versatility in the frontcourt.

Meanwhile, Thompson, in just his second game back from injury, contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, displaying his impact on both ends of the floor.

Supporting Cu’s efforts, Maverick Ahanmisi and Jamie Malonzo provided valuable scoring contributions with double-digit outputs. Malonzo tallied 14 points, while Ahanmisi added 13 points, aiding Ginebra’s push for victory.

The game was a rollercoaster ride for the Kings, who initially took control with a 30-21 lead but found themselves trailing by 10 points, 43-53, at halftime. Despite the ups and downs, Ginebra displayed resilience and determination, mounting a strong comeback in the second half to secure the crucial win.

NorthPort Batang Pier put up a fierce fight throughout the game, led by Arvin Tolentino’s 19 points and nine rebounds. William Navarro, Joshua Munzon, and Allyn Bulanadi also contributed to the scoring effort with 12, 12, and 11 points, respectively.

The Batang Pier matched Ginebra’s intensity, setting the stage for a competitive battle marked by wild momentum swings in the second half. However, Ginebra’s collective effort and clutch plays down the stretch, highlighted by Cu’s stellar performance and timely shooting, ultimately propelled them to victory.

With this win, Barangay Ginebra improved their record to 5-3, climbing to third place in the PBA Philippine Cup standings. Meanwhile, NorthPort Batang Pier dropped to fourth place with a 4-3 record, underscoring the tight competition in the league as teams jockey for playoff positioning.
