San Miguel Beer relied on Mo Tautuaa’s clutch performance to secure a narrow 113-110 victory over Terrafirma in the PBA Philippine Cup clash on Wednesday, April 10,  at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Facing a resilient Terrafirma squad, Tautuaa stepped up when it mattered most, delivering 17 of his season-high 24 points in the fourth quarter. His left-handed undergoal stab in the final moments sealed the win for the Beermen, maintaining their flawless record in the tournament at 5-0, reminiscent of their unbeaten start in the 2018 edition of the competition.

Tautuaa’s outstanding performance was crucial for San Miguel Beer, shooting efficiently from the field and making significant contributions on both ends of the court. His stellar defensive effort in the final play forced Terrafirma’s Juami Tiongson to pass off to Isaac Go, ultimately leading to a missed three-pointer and securing the victory for the Beermen.

Despite the absence of significant contributions from some of their starters, including Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, and Rodney Brondial, San Miguel Beer found a way to overcome Terrafirma’s spirited challenge. CJ Perez led the scoring for the Beermen with 25 points, while June Mar Fajardo continued his impressive run with his 13th consecutive double-double of the season, tallying 20 points and 17 rebounds. Terrence Romeo provided valuable support off the bench with 16 markers.

Terrafirma put up a commendable effort throughout the game, leading by as many as 12 points early on and engaging in a back-and-forth battle with San Miguel Beer. Despite their valiant performance, the Dyip fell short in the closing moments, dropping their record to an even 4-4.

SMB coach Jorge Gallent acknowledged Terrafirma’s resilience and emphasized the importance of defensive stops in securing the win. He highlighted the need to defend the three-point area, recognizing the threat posed by Terrafirma’s outside shooters.

Juami Tiongson led the scoring for Terrafirma with 24 points, supported by Javi Gomez de Liano with 21 points and Stephen Holt with a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists. Isaac Go showcased his shooting prowess with a career-best performance, anchoring Terrafirma’s offense with 21 points, including seven three-pointers.

Despite the disappointment of the loss, Terrafirma displayed their fighting spirit and determination, pushing the league-leading San Miguel Beer to the limit and proving their ability to compete against the top teams in the tournament.
