The San Miguel Beermen continued their dominating run in the PBA Philippine Cup, securing the top seed with an emphatic 120-103 victory over a Robert Bolick-less NLEX squad at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday night, April 29.

With their ninth consecutive win, the Beermen ensured a matchup with the eighth seed in the upcoming quarterfinals, inching closer to a perfect elimination round sweep with just two games remaining.

Coach Jorge Gallent expressed confidence in his team’s consistency and focus, emphasizing that as long as the Beermen continue to play with intensity and execute their roles, they will remain unfazed by potential challenges.

June Mar Fajardo led the charge with an impressive double-double performance, contributing 20 points and a staggering 21 rebounds. Fajardo, however, emphasized the team’s collective effort, highlighting the importance of securing victories over individual statistics.

CJ Perez provided a significant offensive boost with a game-high 30 points, while Jericho Cruz and Terrence Romeo added 15 points each off the bench. Don Trollano and Marcio Lassiter also contributed 14 points each, showcasing the Beermen’s depth and firepower.

Fajardo emphasized the team’s determination to maintain their winning streak and secure the top spot in the standings, setting the stage for a focused approach heading into the playoffs.

From the opening quarter, San Miguel set the tone with their relentless attack, building a substantial lead and controlling the tempo of the game against a struggling NLEX squad.

The Road Warriors, playing without their scoring leader Robert Bolick, who was attending to personal matters after becoming a father, faced an uphill battle against the Beermen’s offensive onslaught. Enoch Valdez and Jhan Mchale Nermal led NLEX’s scoring efforts with 18 and 16 points, respectively, while Sean Anthony, Matt Nieto, and Rob Herndon also contributed in double figures.

Despite their collective scoring output, NLEX couldn’t keep pace with San Miguel’s relentless pace and offensive efficiency, succumbing to their third consecutive loss.

The Beermen’s victory solidified their position atop the standings, leaving NLEX in a three-way tie for third place with Magnolia Hotshots and TNT Tropang Giga, all sporting 5-4 records.

As San Miguel looks ahead to their final two elimination round games against Blackwater and Meralco, their focus remains on maintaining their winning momentum and readiness for the challenges of the postseason.

With their championship pedigree and current form, the Beermen are poised to make a formidable playoff run, leveraging their depth and experience to pursue another title in the PBA Philippine Cup.
