Stephen Holt delivered clutch heroics to propel Terrafirma past NorthPort with a 110-108 victory in the PBA Philippine Cup, enhancing the Dyip’s chances of clinching a coveted quarterfinals berth at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on April 24.

Holt not only scored the game-winning basket with a decisive drive in the final 3.1 seconds but also played a crucial role on the defensive end, contributing to Arvin Tolentino’s critical block by Kemark Carino in the closing moments of the game.

Finishing with an impressive stat line of 22 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and four steals, Holt showcased his versatility and leadership to lead the Dyip out of a two-game slump, leveling their record to an even 5-5.

With another pivotal matchup against Magnolia next Friday, Terrafirma eyes a historic quarterfinals appearance, aiming to secure their first playoff stint since the 2016 Governors Cup.

Terrafirma’s fate in the playoffs hinges on their performance in their final game of the eliminations. Coach Johnedel Cardel expressed confidence in his team’s effort and resilience, acknowledging the significance of this win in their postseason aspirations.

“Effort lang talaga ng mga players. They all want to improve naman ‘yung wins namin. Lagi na lang four, eh,” said Cardel, highlighting the team’s collective determination to succeed.

As the Dyip gear up for their crucial showdown against Magnolia, Cardel acknowledges the challenges ahead but remains optimistic about their playoff prospects.

“Maybe this win will get us to the quarterfinals. Bahala na kasi nga… depende sa other teams, kung sino makaka-tie namin. Hopefully… makapasok pa rin kami,” added Cardel.

Juami Tiongson contributed 21 points before fouling out late in the game, while Mark Louie Sangalang made an impact in his first-ever start, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists, bolstering Terrafirma’s offensive firepower.

Despite a valiant effort from Arvin Tolentino, who led NorthPort with 25 points and seven rebounds, the Batang Pier suffered their fifth consecutive loss, dropping to a 4-6 record. NorthPort now faces a must-win situation in their final eliminations game against Blackwater on Saturday to salvage a playoff spot.

The intense competition and playoff implications underscore the high stakes in the PBA Philippine Cup, where every game matters. Terrafirma’s resilience and determination, epitomized by Stephen Holt’s game-winning performance, position them as a formidable contender in the playoff race, poised to make history with a potential quarterfinal appearance.
