Terrafirma pulled off a stunning upset on Sunday night, securing a critical 91-85 victory over Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Sunday, April 7,  and moving closer to a quarterfinal berth.

Led by standout performances from Juami Tiongson, Javi Gomez De Liano, and Stephen Holt, the Dyip surged to fourth place in the standings with a 4-3 record, while dropping the Gin Kings into a three-way tie for fifth place with TNT Tropang Giga and Blackwater Bossing at 3-3.

It was only the second win for Terrafirma against Barangay Ginebra in 23 meetings since the franchise joined the league in 2014, making this victory particularly significant for the team.

Tiongson led the scoring for Terrafirma with 25 points, including three three-pointers, while Gomez De Liano contributed a career-high 22 points. Holt showcased his versatility with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, making significant contributions across the board.

Kemark Carino added 12 points with two three-pointers, and Isaac Go provided solid support with nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Gomez De Liano, who earned the Best Player of the Game honors for his outstanding performance, said it was a collective effort.

Terrafirma dominated the second half, building a substantial lead with the largest margin reaching 89-76 in the final two minutes of the game. The team’s strong defensive effort and efficient scoring proved crucial in securing the victory over the Gin Kings.

Barangay Ginebra struggled to match Terrafirma’s intensity throughout the game, with Christian Standhardinger leading the scoring for the Kings with 21 points.

Head coach Tim Cone’s frustration was evident as he left the coaching duties to deputy Richard del Rosario towards the end of the game, reflecting his disappointment over the team’s performance.

Coach Johnedel Cardel expressed the team’s determination to secure more wins in their remaining games to solidify their spot in the post-elimination phase.

Cardel emphasized the critical importance of the game for Terrafirma, highlighting their strong desire to secure a victory. He stressed that a loss would have set them back significantly in the standings, underscoring the significance of every game as they progress through the season.

Terrafirma looks ahead to their next challenge against San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday at the same venue, aiming to build on their recent success and continue their quest for a playoff berth in the PBA Philippine Cup.
