Tiongson’s tournament-high 37 points propelled the Dyip to their second win in five games.
Despite the non-bearing nature of the tournament, Tiongson approached the game with a playoff mindset, refusing to take any opponent lightly. He showcased his determination on the court, recording six rebounds, six assists, and four steals while shooting an impressive 13-of-26 from the field, including 7-of-13 from beyond the arc.
While Gelo Alolino, Andreas Cahilig, Eric Camson, and Allen Mina provided crucial contributions, it was Tiongson who truly shone brightest for the Dyip. Reflecting on his exceptional performance, Tiongson praised his teammates for their support and confidence in him throughout the game.
“I always treat each game like it’s the playoffs, it’s the finals, because there was a time I wasn’t able to play. I don’t want to miss an opportunity like this,” expressed Tiongson.
Terrafirma’s victory was a collective effort, with several players stepping up. Alolino contributed 14 points, Cahilig added 13 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, while Mina and Camson chipped in 12 points each. Their well-rounded roster proved to be the deciding factor against the undermanned NLEX team.
For NLEX, Don Trollano led the scoring with 20 points, while Kevin Alas had 15 points. Ben Adamos secured 13 points and nine rebounds, and Clint Doliguez and Jake Pascual added 10 points each. Sean Anthony nearly achieved a double-double with nine points and 11 boards. Despite their efforts, the Road Warriors fell to a 1-4 record in the preseason series.
Tiongson’s stellar performance came to fruition in the third quarter when he spearheaded Terrafirma’s surge, scoring 13 points. The Dyip outscored NLEX 33-23 in the quarter, establishing an 85-76 lead heading into the final period.
Although NLEX’s Kris Rosales managed to bring his team within five points with five consecutive points, Terrafirma quickly responded. Isaac Go’s layup, Tiongson’s three-point play, and Camson’s basket pushed the lead to 92-80. Alolino, Mina, Cahilig, and Tiongson sealed the game with their collective efforts.
During the first half, momentum appeared to be on NLEX’s side as Kevin Alas showcased his shooting prowess, scoring all 12 of his points from beyond the arc in the second quarter. His halfcourt buzzer-beater gave the Road Warriors a narrow 53-52 advantage at halftime.
Terrafirma’s victory demonstrated their depth and resilience, overpowering the undermanned NLEX team. With the win, the Dyip joined Phoenix Super LPG and San Miguel Beer at a 2-3 record in the preseason series, presented by Arena Plus and sponsored by Bingo Plus.
