The TNT Tropang Giga staged a remarkable comeback to secure a crucial 108-101 victory over the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, bolstering their playoff aspirations in the PBA Philippine Cup.

After a lackluster first half that saw TNT trailing by a staggering 20-point deficit (39-62), Coach Chot Reyes rallied his squad to regroup and refocus. Led by RR Pogoy, Kim Aurin, Calvin Oftana, Kelly Williams, and Glenn Khobuntin, TNT unleashed an explosive third-quarter surge, outscoring Phoenix 42-19 to claw their way back into contention.

TNT’s defensive adjustments proved pivotal in the second half, particularly in containing Phoenix’s three-point shooting. After surrendering 10 triples in the first half, the Tropang Giga tightened their defense to limit Phoenix to just two three-pointers in the remaining quarters.

Fueling TNT’s comeback was their own three-point barrage, shooting an impressive 6-of-7 from beyond the arc in the decisive third quarter. Kim Aurin, Glenn Khobuntin, and Calvin Oftana were instrumental in this surge, each contributing crucial three-pointers to spark the Tropang Giga’s momentum shift.

Kelly Williams delivered a standout performance with a double-double, tallying 17 points and grabbing an impressive 13 rebounds, while also playing a pivotal role defensively.

Calvin Oftana narrowly missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, displaying his versatility and impact on both ends of the floor. Kim Aurin and Glenn Khobuntin added valuable contributions with 12 and 11 points, respectively, highlighting TNT’s balanced scoring attack.

Despite Phoenix’s efforts led by Jason Perkins, who finished with 26 points, the Fuel Masters faltered in the face of TNT’s relentless second-half surge. Perkins was limited to just five points in the latter half, a testament to Kelly Williams’ defensive prowess and the team’s collective effort to contain Phoenix’s key scorers.

Coach Reyes commended Kelly Williams for his exceptional defensive performance against Perkins, underscoring the importance of individual contributions within TNT’s cohesive team effort.
