The TNT Tropang Giga emerged victorious against a resilient Terrafirma team, securing a thrilling 100-97 win in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on March 9.

The game hero was rookie sensation Henry Galinato, who stepped up when his team needed him the most.

The absence of key players like Roger Pogoy and Kelly Williams didn’t deter the Tropang Giga as they faced the challenge head-on. Despite the gritty performance from Terrafirma, TNT’s experience in close games proved crucial in securing the victory.

Coach Chot Reyes expressed relief after the game, recognizing the enhanced competitiveness of teams in the league, with special mention to Terrafirma.

He noted that teams, including Terrafirma, have significantly improved, making astute draft picks now contributing to their increased competitiveness. The overall performance of these teams is evident, showcasing their progress and making the league more competitive.

Jayson Castro, with 23 points, and Calvin Oftana, who overcame a slow start to contribute 19 points and 10 rebounds, played key roles in the victory.

However, it was the standout performance of rookie Galinato that stole the spotlight. The former UP Fighting Maroon showcased his skills with 17 points and 11 boards, providing a much-needed boost for TNT.

Coach Reyes highlighted Galinato’s impact on the game, saying that he helped out a lot.

Galinato, in turn, credited his teammates and coaches for instilling confidence in him during practices. He dedicated his game to his team, giving him the confidence that he needed.

Terrafirma, despite the loss, put up a valiant effort. Stephen Holt’s impressive 24-point, eight-rebound, and seven-assist performance, along with Juami Tiongson’s 21 markers despite a challenging shooting start, showcased their determination. Javi Gomez de Liano added 18 points, and Isaac Go contributed 11 points for Terrafirma.

As the Tropang Giga celebrate their hard-earned victory, Terrafirma now looks ahead to refocusing for their upcoming game against Phoenix Super LPG on Wednesday.

The PBA Philippine Cup continues to deliver thrilling matchups, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as teams vie for supremacy in the league.
